For those out for a laid-back vacation in China, consider a travel to Haikou.


It is a tropical and coastal city in China that is among the least developed. It is also known as the Coconut City. The city streets are lined up with coconut trees that give you a tropical feel during your vacation. The city also has a long coastline where tourists can stroll.

Wugong Temple – This is also called the Temple of the Five Lords. The temple was built in memory of the five historical officials that were banished to Hainan due to their criticism of the government. This is also considered to be the best building in Hainan. The temple is surrounded by palm trees, ponds filled with lilies, and winding bridges. You shouldn’t miss the temple during your travel in Haikou.

Dongzhai Harbor Mangrove Natural Reserve Area – This reserve area is located in Qiongshan District and the travel takes about an hour. This is a haven of birds, mangroves, and other trees. There are more than 150 species of birds that are at home in the reserve. There are also frequent migratory birds visiting the area.

Tomb of Hairui – Hairui is a Hainan official during the Ming Dynasty. He was known to be an upright and incorruptible official who campaigned for the common people’s rights. The tomb is completely built in granite, including the pathway. The pathway is also lined with statues of sheep, horses, humans, and lions. You can also find the Hairui Cultural Exhibit Hall inside the cemetery.

Dongjiao Coconut Plantation – This is a famous spot in Haikou, especially for those who want to have a relaxing vacation while sipping fresh coconut juice. The plantation has different kinds of coconuts, like high coconut, red coconut, blue coconut, and water coconut. There’s also a beach in the plantation where tourists can play sand and water sports. You can also enjoy different seafood cuisines at the restaurants in the plantation.

Qiongtai Academy – The school was established in memory of Qui Jun, who was considered the best scholar in Hainan during his time. The main building is made of traditional Chinese bricks and wood. The well-preserved school is now the building for the Qiongtai Teacher’s Training School.

Holiday Beach – A relaxing vacation by the beach is easy when you’re in Haikou. Holiday beach has beautiful view of the sun, sand, and pristine water. It is lined with different seaside cafes and restaurants. It has different areas for tourists. However, there’s a rent for the parasol and beach chairs.
