The intriguing islands of the Philippines in Southeast Asia

They have become a popular tourist hub. With its astonishing culture wrapped up in nature’s fingertips, the Bicol region in particular, has become a famous travel destination for people from all walks of life. Encompassing six different provinces in the Southeastern tip of Luzon – Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate, Catanduanes and Sorsogon; Bicol is among the top vacation hotspots due to its colorful festivals, scrumptious delicacies and exotic wildlife.

Getting to this gorgeous place is easy – all you have to do is hop on a flight from Manila to Legazpi City using either Cebu Pacific airlines or Philippine Airlines. If you’re on a tight budget during your vacation, then you can travel by bus from either the EDSA or Araneta Center terminals in Manila to Bicol. Do take note that the Philippines thrives on a tropical climate and highest rainfall periods occur from June to January, so this can cripple your plans for any outdoor activities. The best time to travel to Bicol would be during the dry season whereby daylight hours are long.

There are plenty of hotels to stay in during your vacation in Bicol – especially along Albay, Sorsogon and Catanduanes. If you have an eye for nature, Bicol is no short on the faunal list. Travel to the Mangrove Forest Reserve in Prieto Diaz, Botong Twin Falls in Sorsogon, Parian Mainit Spring in Camalig, Balubagon Boiling Cave in Manito and Calapnitan Cave in Camarines Sur to explore some exotic tropical terrain. If history is your thing, then travel to the Astillero Archeological Site in Donsol, Sunken galleon in Santo Domingo and Batalay Monument in Bato to observe some fantastic shipwrecks and tombs firsthand. If you have a passion for scrutinizing religious architecture, then swing by the Lady of the Gate Church in Daraga, Camalig Catholic Church in Albay, Virac Cathedral in Catanduanes and Naga Cathedral in Camarines Sur. If none of this sounds appealing and you desire a day of rest and relaxation during your vacation, then take a trip to the Bagasbas Beach in Camarines Norte.

One of the greatest attractions in Bicol includes whale shark watching in Donsol. Don’t miss out on this golden opportunity to swim next with these gentle giants, and be sure to visit the notable Mayon Volcano in Cagsawa. Most importantly, be a part of the Philippines culture during one of the many vibrant festivals throughout the year. Partake in the Bicol Food Festival to tease your taste buds and Magayon Festival for a truly colorful and ethereal experience. So what are you waiting for? Hurry and travel to Bicol during your next vacation!
