If you decide to do away with the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River packaged tours,

then you can also enjoy the scenery by going through a regular paddle boat tour. The paddle boat tour is a forty-five minute fun-filled sightseeing in the Puerto Princesa Underground River.

Here are the steps:

With your Visitor Entry Permit, head over to Sabang Port located in Barangay Cabayugan, Puerto Princesa. Once you get there, fill out a registration slip at the Sabang Port Tourist Information Center. You need a valid ID in order to register. After that, you can then go to the entrance section of the Underground River to join the Paddle Boat Tour.

There are two ways to reach the Underground River Entrance in Puerto Princesa. You can hike via the Monkey Trail or you can ride a motor boat.

Riding a motor boat or a pumpboat is the most convenient route. All you need to do is to go to Sabang Port and locate the beach near the Underground River Entrance. After the tour, the boat that you will hire will also be there waiting for you to take you back to Sabang Port. That means you are paying for a back and forth trip.

The arrangement with the pumpboat owner is not something that you accomplish on your own. When you register at the Tourist Information Center, you need to inform the officer that you are opting to ride a pumpboat to get to the Underground River Entrance. He will be the one to make the arrangements for you. Your name will be called once the boat is ready. Simply wait at the port. Then enjoy your thirty-minute boat ride to the marvelous Puerto Princesa Underground River.

Using the Monkey Trail route, on the other hand, is the least expensive way to reach the Underground River. If you do a slow walk, the hike lasts for around two hours. The total distance that you need to cover is 5.3 kilometers. At the end of the Paddle Boat Tour, hike again for another two hours to go back to Sabang Port. When you take the Monkey Trail, do not litter, most especially if you discard plastics along the way. The monkeys will attack in order to collect the plastics, thinking that those were food. Either follow the trail signs or hire a guide for PHP500 or PHP700.

Enjoy the Paddle Boat Tour inside the Puerto Princesa Underground River!
